Fine Art: "Bridging Mindfulness ", Bangkok
Artist Statement: The bridges photographed for this project not only serve as structures for spanning rivers they provide an aesthetic point of reflection and metaphor for my practice of mindfulness resulting in the creation of my digital art. Bridges have a stoic nature to them, one of my personality traits. Bridges are steadfast and unmoving in an ever-changing environment. They bask in the sun during the day, are shrouded in darkness during the night, rain beats down on them relentlessly, and people walk over them. Bridges are strong, however, over time even the strongest concrete spalls and the steel begins to deteriorate allowing the patina of rust to slowly appear. The stresses of life fracture my mind and body but there remains the glowing light and color of life surrounding me that is comforting and peaceful as I find solace in photographing the bridges. The practice of mindfulness helps focus my mind and camera to capture the images that are in essence, a self-portrait.
